Wyatt Homes Celebrates 35 Years

We celebrated our landmark 35^th anniversary in style, with residents and employees at Rivers Edge.

Over the past 35 years we have created more than 50 new sensitively designed developments and built over 1700 homes, all renowned for their award-winning architecture and high specification interiors.

Although our most notable developments include Vision in Sandbanks, Brimsmore in Yeovil and Rivers Edge in Wimborne, we are now looking forward to future projects which will deliver an expansion of the business into new areas across the south coast of England as part of our ambitious growth plans for 2026 and beyond.

David Wyatt, CEO and founder of Wyatt Homes, comes from a family of housebuilders, but chose to carve his own path when he started the business in 1990.

“We started off working on small scale projects with one or two plots. Our defining site came five years into the business when we were tasked with designing and building a primary school for Dorset County Council. We handed the school over in the year 2000 and we then built homes on the former school site. This was game changing for Wyatt. From there, we started building for the higher end market at our Sandbanks development.

“The biggest step change for Wyatt Homes was when we moved into strategic land and longer-term planning. Some of the sites we’re building now, have been in the pipeline for 20 years, so I see Wyatt as a company of two halves; there’s the homes we’re selling now and there’s also the team from planning and architects who work on the longer-term plans.”

We have also delivered community facilities from allotments and community halls to skate parks and, in 2020, we built a football stadium as the new home for Wimborne FC.

“Building the football ground for Wimborne was so satisfying. I’ve been to matches and the atmosphere is excellent. Community facilities are key to selling our developments so we always listen to the people who live locally so every development feels like something the whole community can celebrate,” said David.

Our attention to detail can only be achieved with the help of long-lasting, local partners. Sister company S&S joinery has been crafting the bespoke timber features that make every Wyatt home unique for the last 25 years.

“One of the biggest lessons I’ve learnt over the last 35 years is how important cultivating relationships is,” David explained. “Wyatt Homes is a place where talented individuals can thrive but collaboration with external partners such as landowners, planning authorities and subcontractors has also been key.”

In June 2023, Shaun Pettitt was welcomed as the company’s first ever external Managing Director, whilst David Wyatt transitioned to Chief Executive.

“Bringing Shaun in meant that I could concentrate on the elements I love most such as the strategic land side and the design of our homes and developments,” said David. “Something that has always been important to Wyatt developments is ensuring that there is harmony between our homes and the existing landscape.”

We marked the milestone with a Christmas-themed event with residents and staff at Rivers Edge development in Wimborne, which is also where our new company office will be opening in the new year.

“The new office marks the next chapter for Wyatt and is in line with our growth and plans for 2026 and beyond,” said David.
